QCCRN ASM 4 & 5 June 2026
The 2026 QCCRN ASM will be held on 4-5 June 2026 at the translational Research Institute, Brisbane QLD.
This year’s theme is EMR-Embedded Clinical Trials — a topic at the forefront of pragmatic trial methodology and one with enormous potential to transform how we conduct research at the bedside.
We are thrilled to welcome Prof Paul Young (Intensive Care Physician & Clinical Trialist, Wellington Hospital and Medical Research Institute of New Zealand) as our keynote speaker. Prof Young is one of the most influential critical care trialists in the world, and his insights on EMR-embedded trial design and individualised treatment effects will be a highlight of the program.
The meeting is the right place for you if you want to:
• Learn about EMR-embedded pragmatic clinical trials and heterogeneity of treatment effects
• Explore opportunities to participate in QCCRN multicentre research
• Connect as a data scientist/statistician looking to collaborate with clinicians
• Find a research mentor or formalise a project as a CICM trainee
We are also calling for expressions of interest from anyone wishing to present their research ideas which may be suitable for the network.

Epidemiology and pharmacological management of new onset atrial fibrillation in critically ill adults: A multicentre observational study
Objective We aimed to determine the incidence of new onset atrial fibrillation (NOAF) in a cohort of intensive care unit (ICU) patients and, further, identify commonly utilised pharmacological strategies for its management in patients with and without sepsis. Design A multicentre, retrospective observational study was conducted. Setting Twelve ICUs in Queensland, Australia. Participants Adult patients,…

The Use of Vasoactive Agents in Pulmonary Embolism Among the Critically Ill: A Multi-Centred, Retrospective Cohort Study in Queensland Intensive Care Units
Background Pulmonary embolism may cause hemodynamic instability requiring vasoactive support, but evidence on guiding agent selection is very limited. Methods A retrospective cohort study of adult admissions to 12 Intensive Care Units in Queensland, Australia between 2015–2021. Clinical and outcome data was obtained through statewide hospital databases. Results Of 89,123 admissions, 460 (0.6%) patients had…

A comparison of sodium concentration measured in laboratory autoanalyser versus point-of-care blood gas machine: A retrospective, multicentre, analytical study in a large adult intensive care unit population
Objective Discrepancies between laboratory sodium and point-of-care arterial blood gas sodium values may lead to delayed interpretation of, and intervention on, the results. We studied the mean difference between these two techniques and assessed the degree of agreement. Design A multicentre, retrospective, observational study was conducted. Setting Twelve intensive care units in Queensland, Australia, with…

Epidemiology and Outcomes of Patients with Adult Congenital Heart Disease in Queensland Intensive Care Units: A Multicentre Retrospective Observational Study
Objectives To describe the epidemiology, clinical characteristics, and outcomes of adult congenital heart disease (ACHD) patients admitted to intensive care units (ICUs) across Queensland, Australia. Design A multicenter, retrospective cohort study. Setting Twelve adult ICUs across Queensland, including tertiary referral and regional centers, from January 1, 2015, to December 31, 2021. Participants Adults (≥18 years)…
